Baywatch revived as a movie again with Pamela Anderson and The Hoff… but not as you’d expect

After being rebooted (somewhat unsuccessfully) for the big screen by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, there’s another Baywatch movie in the works, but this one’s a little different.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Baywatch: The Documentary is coming, from the duo behind Public Figure, Matthew Felker and Brian Corso.

The film will take an in-depth look at the ’90s TV series, which became a culture phenomenon, and feature interviews with cast members.

“We want to show the audience how it culturally shaped an entire decade,” Felker said. “The look and feel and tone of Baywatch bled into everything ’90s. Baywatch is about as synonymous with a decade as the Kardashians are to today’s current pop culture.”

Cast members already confirmed for interviews are David Hasselhoff, Nicole Eggert, David Chokachi, Alexandra Paul, Erika Eleniak, Gena Lee Nolin Hulse, Jason Simmons and Jeremy Jackson.

While producers are said to be looking to add Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra and Michael Bergin to the list.

Speaking about his time on the series, Hasselhoff said: “What a phenomenal experience it was to be part of the Baywatch journey from the show’s first season being cancelled to lasting over 10 years to being rebooted some 30 years later.

“I am honoured and proud of the work our cast and crew did together. Baywatch is truly a spectacular worldwide hit and has affected millions of people and saved a lot of lives. Heart, humour and action! Baywatch forever!”

Baywatch Is Coming to Amazon Prime

For the longest time, Baywatch — the era-defining cheesy ’90s sexy lifeguard action drama — was one of the most historically popular shows unavailable to stream. But now, in the year of the series’ 30th anniversary, David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson and friends are coming to Amazon Prime on Jan. 20.

Every episode of Baywatch has been remastered from its original low-budg film into high-def, so you can see all the bounces and flexes in crystal-clear clarity. Perhaps even more notably, 350 new original songs have been composed to score the iconic montages. Music clearance issues are the biggest obstacles in getting old shows on streaming platforms, so Baywatch rights-holder Fremantle figured out a way around it.

Baywatch ran from 1989 to 2001, with Season 1 on NBC and later seasons in syndication, where it became one of the most popular shows in the world. It was set in California before moving to Hawaii for its last two seasons. The plots were about the soapy relationships among the lifeguards in between beachfront emergencies, but really, the series just an excuse to look at hot people in bathing suits. Over the years, the constantly-rotating cast featured folks like Carmen Electra, Yasmine Bleeth and young Jason Momoa, but the true Baywatch icons are Pamela Anderson as C.J. Parker and executive producer David Hasselhoff as Mitch Buchannon. It got a movie reboot in 2017 starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

Baywatch will be available to stream on Amazon Prime starting Sunday, Jan. 20.

Pamela Confesses Why She Always Breaks the Number One Skin Care Rule

Ask any dermatologist (which we do, constantly) and they will tell you the number-one thing you can do for your skin is use sunscreen. It reduces the risk of skin cancer and serves as a barrier to protect skin from the damaging effects of the sun (like skin discoloration and prematurely aging skin). But not everyone agrees with the often-lauded benefits of using sunscreen, including former Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson, who recently confessed that she has never worn SPF—not even during her days running on the beach in that famous red one-piece.

In a recent Q&A with Harper’s Bazaar, the 50-yeaer-old starlet and outspoken animal activist was asked if she always wears SPF and her answer was surprising: “Never—my parents never put SPF on me. And then I found out how it polluted the ocean. I never wore sunscreen on Baywatch. Just oil.”

It may seem shocking to hear that a former sun-worshipper like Anderson never uses sun protection, but she’s not alone. According to a survey conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2013, the majority of Americans do not regularly use sunscreen to protect themselves from harmful UV rays. Despite years of public health messages, only about one third of Americans said they use sunscreen regularly. With so many new options available in today’s sunscreen market, there are plenty of eco-friendly choices to choose from these days, so there’s something for everyone—even the most famous bombshell TV lifeguard.
