On Sunday, stars wore black to the Golden Globe Awards to stand in solidarity for gender equality and in support of victims of sexual harassment and assault.

It was a demonstration, which actress Pamela Anderson called “great” and “heartfelt,” but after an “uncomfortable” Uber ride home on Tuesday, she’s imploring people to do more.

Anderson told the Daily Mail that during her ride home, the driver repeatedly stared at her in the rearview mirror. The uncomfortable nature of the encounter made her think of “vulnerable young girls.”

She agreed that “awareness is important,” but added that in her opinion, “action is more important.” Anderson elaborated:

“I encourage people to follow their passion and live their lives with meaning and purpose, but also to not think they’ve accomplished anything with just a hashtag by itself.”

She added that people shouldn’t be lulled into a false sense of security when using ride-hailing apps simply because “everyone else is doing it.”

“Everyone must protect themselves by using common sense, and we must teach our children to be safe,” Anderson explained.

This isn’t the first time the actress has implored people, and especially women, to take action to help ensure their own safety.

After she received backlash for comments she made on NBC’s “Megyn Kelly Today,” Anderson noted that “it is not helping anyone to ignore the realities in the society we live in.”

While the blame always falls at the feet of the perpetrator, the actress explained that women should use “common-sense measures to keep ourselves safe and avoid harmful situations.”
